Location
The city of Da Nang consists of a land area and an archipelago on the East Sea. Its mainland latitude and longitude is 15055' to 16014' N and 107018' to 108020' E. Da Nang borders with Thua Thien-Hue Province in the north, Quang Nam Province in the south and the west, and the East Sea in the east. Its sea area consists of the Hoang Sa archipelago, which is located at 15045’ to 17015’ N and 1110 to 1130E and about 120 nautical miles to Ly Son Island, Quang Ngai province, in the south.
Da Nang is situated in the centre of Viet Nam, 764km from Ha Noi and 964km from Ho Chi Minh City. It lies on the north-south transport axis of land, rail, sea and air routes. From Da Nang, visitors can conveniently access four famous World Heritage Sites, comprising Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Hue Citadel, Hoi An Old Town, and My Son Cham Sanctuary.
Tien Sa Port is a pivotal part of the East-West Economic Corridor, the gateway to the Pacific Ocean of Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and central Viet Nam. Located on international sea and air routes, Da Nang has an especially favourable location for rapid and sustainable development.
The city has a natural land area of 1,283.42km2, comprising 241.51km2 of urban districts and 1,041.91 km2 of rural districts.
Climate
Da Nang is located in the zone of typical tropical monsoon, temperate and equable climate. The city's weather bears the combination of the north and the south climate characters with the inclination to the former. There are two seasons: the wet from August to December and the dry season from January to July, cold waves are occasional but they are of average and short lasting. Average humidity is 83.4%.
Average temperature is about 260C, the highest is 28-300C in June, July and August; the lowest is 18-230C in December, January and February. In Ba Na Mountain, the temperature is 200C. Average rainfall is 2,505mm per year that concentrates during October and November.
The average humidity is 83.4%; highest in October and November the average of 85.67 to 87.67%; lowest in June and July, the average of 76.67 to 77.33%.
The average annual rainfall is 2504.57 mm / year; highest rainfall on October and November the average of 550 - 1,000 mm / month; lowest in months January, February , the average from 23-40 mm/month.
Average hours of sunshine is 2156.2 hours; most on may and June, the average of 234 to 277 hours / month; least on November and December , the average from 69 to 165 hours / month
Terrain
Terrain of Da Nang has just plain and mountain, high mountains and steep concentrated in the North West and West, from here there are many mountains run long to the sea, some low hills interspersed alternative narrow coastal plains.
Mountainous terrain occupied large area, height from 700-1.500m, large slope (>400), where high concentration of watershed forests and has meaningful to protection of ecological environment of the city.
Short and steep Rivers System, originating from the west, northwest and Quang Nam province.
Coastal plain is the low land influenced by salinity marine, is the focus of many basis of agriculture, industry, services, military, land and in the functional areas of the city.

Da Nang symbol
The Da Nang symbol has the theme 'Three Blues: mountains - river - sea and Three Whites: wind - sky - sand'. The idea emerged from the city's location by sea, mountains, river and rice fields in a picturesque and harmonious landscape. Images of the Marble Mountains, rice fields in Hoa Vang, fresh sandy beaches at Thanh Khe and Lien Chieu and the bridge linking Hai Chau and Son Tra districts are shown.
Da Nang history
In the middle of the 16th century, when Hoi An was a busy center of the south, Danang was only a small port for goods in transit and ship repair. It gradually developed into a commercial port replacing Hoi An in the early 18th century, when European shipbuilding was improved and large deep draught vessels could easily enter Danang Bay.
