Da Nang – Naju: Driving Sustainable Urban and Smart City Development Collaboration
On the morning of July 4, Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, received Mr. Kim Gwan-yong, Vice Chairman of the Naju City Council (South Korea).
During the meeting, Vice Chairwoman Thi briefed the delegation on the upcoming merger of Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City. She then highlighted the new city's notable potentials and advantages, emphasizing the pivotal role of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, its comprehensive North-South and East-West transportation network, and the presence of two Class-1 seaports and two airports. She also underscored the robust logistics capacity, with cargo throughput at Tien Sa and Chu Lai ports projected to reach 20 million tons annually.
The Vice Chairwoman also elaborated on the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone's role as an economic engine, particularly in automobile manufacturing, precision engineering, and supporting industries. Concurrently, she affirmed the High-Tech Park's significant potential for advancements in electronics, software, and artificial intelligence.
Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi expressed Da Nang's strong desire to intensify collaboration with Naju across mutually beneficial sectors, including smart city development and sustainable urban initiatives. She extended a cordial invitation to Naju's leadership and representatives to attend the Vietnam - Korea Festival in Da Nang, scheduled for August 1-3, 2025.
Mr. Kim Gwan-yong, Vice Chairman of the Naju City Council, affirmed Naju's commitment to enhancing exchanges and cooperation across various shared interest areas, thereby further strengthening the enduring friendly relationship between the two municipalities.

<p style="text-align: justify;;line-height:30px">The Vice Chairman affirmed that the visit holds significant importance in strengthening the friendship and mutual trust between the two sides, in line with the framework of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He also emphasized that the city is ready to facilitate and promote cooperation between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Japan Coast Guard.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;;line-height:30px">Rear Admiral Takahashi Toru expressed his appreciation for the cooperative relationship between the two countries and expressed the desire to continue enhancing coordination in ensuring maritime security, safety, and search and rescue at sea.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;;line-height:30px">cooperation in the fields of finance and banking, innovation, high-tech healthcare, and human resource training, in line with the orientation of establishing the Vietnam International Financial Center in Đà Nẵng.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;;line-height:30px">In the field of high-tech healthcare, partners from the Swiss Asia Chamber and Singularity Institute proposed cooperation in establishing a research laboratory and setting up a mental health clinic in Đà Nẵng. In addition, they explored the possibility of establishing a law firm operating within the International Financial Center, as well as collaborating to train high-quality legal professionals.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;;line-height:30px">In Davos, the delegation met with Yubico, the Lithuanian Crypto Economy Organization, and Lithuania's Web3 to discuss potential collaborations and opportunities in cybersecurity, secure semiconductors, fintech, blockchain, and the development of the digital asset ecosystem, in line with the plan to establish an International Financial Center in Đà Nẵng.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">Taking place over three days from December 26 to 28, the series of activities for the 21st Hoi An – Japan Cultural Exchange, Da Nang 2025, left a lasting impression on residents and tourists alike.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">The activities throughout the festival created a vibrant atmosphere, highlighting the cultural intersection between Vietnam and Japan. This contributed to promoting the image of Da Nang and Hoi An as cultural and historical destinations rich in identity.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">A major highlight was the Futon Daiko ceremony—the largest palanquin procession from Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture (Japan)—which officially appeared in Hoi An for the first time. The procession moved through the streets around the Pagoda Bridge area to the lively sound of Taiko drums and powerful cheers, attracting a large crowd of onlookers.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">The event also reenacted the wedding procession of Princess Ngoc Hoa (daughter of Lord Nguyen Phuc Nguyen) and Japanese merchant Araki Sotaro, recalling the friendship between Vietnam and Japan since the early 17th century. The festival space was further energized by street art exchanges, Taiko drum performances, calligraphy demonstrations, Japanese tea ceremonies, and a Cosplay competition.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">Alongside the main events, several cultural experience programs were held throughout the festival such as: Vietnam – Japan Bonsai exchange; "Ancient Japanese Marks" tours; photo exhibitions; "Hizen Ceramics – Patterns that Tell Stories"; tourism promotion, cuisine, souvenirs, and Japanese manga stalls.</span></p>

<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">Secretary of the City Party Committee Lê Ngọc Quang welcomed the new Consul General in her position and affirmed that Danang always values and continuously nurtures the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos. The Party Secretary expressed confidence that Ms. Vonekhamsy Cheuangmanyong will continue to serve as a bridge to promote cooperative relations between Da Nang and various localities in Laos across multiple fields.</span></p>

<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">At noon on January 27, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyễn Đình Vĩnh presided over a meeting with Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Champasak Provincial Party Committee (Lao PDR) Souphap Thammahacksa and the delegation visiting and working in Danang City. </span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">Permanent Deputy Secretary Nguyễn Đình Vĩnh welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of Danang's socio-economic development in 2025, along with the development goals and targets for 2026. He also stated that the city leadership had agreed on a cooperation program with the southern and central provinces of Laos for the 2026–2030 period, including Champasak Province, to continue implementing previous commitments and incorporate the proposals from the Laos side into the joint cooperation program.</span></p>

<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">At noon on January 26th, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hồ Quang Bửu received and held a working session with a delegation from Vientiane Capital (Laos) to learn about and exchange experiences in operating the Public Administration Service Center model. </span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:30px"><span style="text-justify:inter-ideograph">The Vice Chairman emphasized that administrative reform is a key task, in which science, technology, and digital transformation are identified as foundations for building a smart city and improving the quality of service for citizens and businesses. The city is actively reviewing and simplifying administrative procedures, reducing compliance time and costs, enhancing digitalization of records, providing electronic results, implementing procedures independent of administrative boundaries, while also applying various free utilities and humane service models at the Public Administration Service Centers.</span></p>
