South Korean Destroyer Kang Gam Chang Visits Da Nang
On the morning of May 5, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Ky Minh received the Kang Gam Chan destroyer delegation from the South Korean Navy, led by Colonel Kwon Yong Gu, during their visit and working trip to Da Nang.
Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the city's socio-economic development, emphasizing South Korea’s important role in the fields of tourism and investment. He also noted that in August 2025, Da Nang plans to collaborate with the South Korean Consulate General to host the 4th Vietnam – Korea Festival, featuring a wide range of cultural, artistic, sports, and technology-related events.
The Vice Chairman affirmed that this visit by the Kang Gam Chan destroyer would contribute to strengthening the friendship and promoting strategic cooperation between the two countries. He expressed hope that Da Nang would become a bridge for naval cooperation between the two nations, particularly in training activities and experience sharing to ensure maritime security.
Colonel Kwon Yong Gu thanked the city leaders and people of Da Nang for their warm reception and expressed his impression of the city’s dynamic, modern, and hospitable development. He hoped there would be more opportunities for exchanges and cooperation between the South Korean and Vietnamese navies, contributing to the strengthening of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Earlier, on May 4, the ship docked at Tien Sa Port to begin its three-day friendly visit to Da Nang (from May 4 to May 6).
The visit of the Kang Gam Chan destroyer contributes to tightening the friendship, enhancing cooperation, exchange, and mutual understanding between the two countries, while promoting the development of the Vietnam – South Korea comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
The Kang Gam Chan destroyer is 150 meters long, 17.4 meters wide, and 38.5 meters high, with a displacement of 5,500 tons and a crew of 344. The ship is equipped with a modern maritime radar system and weapon systems including missiles and torpedoes.
